UNION — Union County 4-H is expanding its program by offering a new countywide 4-H Club.
The new club will meet one Saturday per month, introducing its youth members to a variety of activities and events. The club will also give current 4-H members who are involved in a project the opportunity to explore other areas of 4-H and make friendships with 4-H members across the county.
The first county-wide 4-H Club meeting will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday in the Clemson Extension Office meeting room, and the club is open to ages 5-19.
In addition to an overview of the 4-H program opportunities in Union County, youth will construct and launch air rockets — one of several lessons in the new 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology curriculum. Youth will receive instructions for building their own air rocket launchers from PVC pipe, and the rockets will be made from various weights of paper. Participants will be able to experiment with which rockets fly the furthest and the fastest.
There is no cost for this initial meeting, however, there is an annual fee of $10 for youth interested in becoming a 4-H member. Members will receive a 2013 4-H t-shirt with their memberships.
