Well I believe winter is here. We’re having a very heavy frost in the mornings and early evenings. The Greenville Airport says it will be about 33 degrees tonight. To some places it might not seem like much. But when we just came out of 60 and 70 degree weather last week, this is cold.

How did I do it? My neighbor and I walked every day, sometimes trudged, sometimes it felt like skating, depending on the roads,when I lived in Michigan. The snow would be knee deep, or if we walked in town, the sidewalks were icy. The weather was always below zero, even if the sun was out. We bundled up and went out, no matter what. I remember coming in, out of the snow, and everything started turning black, so I put my head between my knees, and my husband called me a fool, because the weatherman said do not go out because you can crystallize your lungs. So I guess I came in just in time. Now I just use the excuse that it’s too cold to walk, so I’ll wait for warmer weather.

Deer

Hey fellas, I just about got three deer tonight on Highway 176. I really hadn’t seen any (except in Lockhart) on the sides of the road since hunting season was over. These three decided to cross in front of me. They came off the median. Well my brakes are very good on my car.

Workshop

Lockhart’s planning a workshop and it would be wonderful if you would attend. Community Design Solutions of Columbia, S.C. will be over the workshop. These are architects that come in and study the town and surrounding areas, and make a plan for our future to promote tourism . They have done the same for Pacolet. But we need you for input on Tuesday, January 29, at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Mill Street. This is your community and this is your chance to help shape the future of Lockhart.

Jacob’s Well

Jacob’s Well had a food and clothing drive last Saturday and Mitch Sinclair said they had a little over 80 for breakfast and fellowship, also.

This group of men that started Jacob’s Well are from Jubilee Ministries and are planning a yearly festival; this year it will be held on April 6. He showed us some of the plans and he has a lot of gospel singing groups lined up to perform. There is also quite a few vendors. There will be plenty of activities, etc. I hope you will support this group and join in the fun. As time goes on I’ll update you on the progress.

Birthdays

Some birthdays that I didn’t cover last week are: On the 23rd — Mary and Macy Scarborough, and Tommy McCollum. Glen Stein, Taylor Burnett, Susan Hines and Jeff Clayton on the 24th. Tammy McCollum’s on the 30th.

Anniversaries

Happy Anniversary to Dickie and Marlene Shugart on the 21st. Ann and William Vinson on the 22nd.

At The Movies

“Mama,” that was the scary movie that I saw and if you want to jump around in your seat, then I say, go and see it. It is about two little girls that lived in an old house in the woods for a few years and was taken care of by “mama,” only she’d been dead for a couple of years. Well that’s all I can tell you without ruining it for the ones that want to see it.

It was one of those movies that everyone in the theater reacted to everything that happened. I overheard one girl on the phone, after the movie, telling someone it was the scariest movie she saw, and she had to close her eyes once and awhile. Well, she was alot of fun to listen to, anyway.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on the screen in “The Last Stand.” I just got back from seeing it and enjoyed it very much. He plays an older laidback sheriff of a small town close to the Mexico border, and thinks since most of the town left to watch the high school play football away from home, he will have a quiet weekend. Wrong!! It’s an action thriller, not a “Terminator,” but it’s good. Fast cars, fast guns, and fast fists.

Sewage Line

The workers on this sewage line, here worked all weekend. They are doing their best to hit the deadline and have promised to have the town back together when they leave.

Remember In Prayer

Pray for Doris Whitlock, because she will be having some major surgery real soon. She’s in Summerville, but will always be a Lockhart gal. She told me they will be taking her heart out and putting her on a machine while they repair and replace valves in the heart.

Sympathy

My sympathy this week goes to Margaret Reardon’s family and Barbara Knight’s family, for their loss.

Job Interviews

A police officer was interviewing a young recruit.

“If you’re driving on a lonely road at night,” the officer asked, “and you’re being chased by a gang of criminals going 60 m.p.h. what would you do?”

The applicant replied, “Seventy!”

The employer addressed the applicant,: “We want a responsible person for this job.”

“Then I’m your man,” announced the young man. “No matter where I’ve worked, whenever anything happened, they always said I was responsible.”
