UNION — A series of summer concerts was on the agenda when the Union County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met Wednesday evening in the downstairs training/meeting room o City Hall.

During the meeting, which was the first of 2013, chamber Executive Director Torance Inman reported to the board that since December 21, the chamber office has answered over 100 calls and 1,100 emails as well as hosting more than 100 visits in the one-month span.

The chamber currently has 227 members, which is five more than there were one year ago.

The board discussed a plan to work in conjunction with the Union County Recreation Department to host four music events over the summer at the gazebo at USC Union. Inman said the location had already been approved by the university.

The proposed dates are June 8, June 22, July 20 and Aug. 3. Each of the four events would showcase a different genre of music, and performers will face Main Street. Inman said this will be an effort to bring more activity to Union’s Downtown area.

The chamber is currently looking for sponsors for the event to each pay $1,000 to sponsor all four concerts.

“So far, it has been very well received,” Inman said, saying that two sponsors have already committed and four others have expressed interest.

In other business, the board voted to have Inman complete a self-evaluation every six months, and then board members will evaluate him annually. Eight board members were in favor of the decision while one board member — Ray Treadway — abstained. Treadway said he did so because he believes the board should give an evaluation every six months rather than on an annual basis.
