JONESVILLE — A church that provided food for more than 50,000 people in 2012 is looking to continue its service to the community in 2013 but still needs the contiued generosity and support of the public to do so.
Pastor Don Moore announced this week that The Potters Storehouse was able to provide food and household items to 51,529 individuals representing 21,297 households in 2012. He said he and the members of his church wanted to thank all those who help them do so.
“Local generosity from businesses small and large; churches and classes and choirs within churches; clubs and many people who gave as little as one dollar and as much as a thousand dollars made 2012 a success,” Moore said. “We also want to thank The Union Daily Times and WBCU for always helping to get the information about the program out to the people on a regular basis.”
Moore said the church will continue its program of distributing food and household items to the needy twice a month in 2013 as it did in 2012, but the dates of the distributions will change.
“After much thought and consideration we’ve decided to change distribution days from the second and fourth Saturdays of the month to the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month starting January 23,” Moore said. “Distributions will begin at 11 a.m. and volunteers are needed and are asked to report at 8:30 a.m. to prepare boxes. If you are a new volunteer, please report at 8 a.m. in order to sign in and register as a volunteer.”
Moore said the change is designed to allow volunteers the opportunity to spend their Saturdays at home with their families. Also it will make the distributions more convenient for the church, its staff and volunteers and suppliers of food.
In addition to volunteers, Moore said the church continues to need financial help to meet the growing numbers of families that need its help.
“The distributions continue to grow in number as there are more and more families who are in need,” Moore said. “In 2012 we served 15,763 children under the age of 18.
“We really need the public’s help to keep going,” he said. “In 2012, the donations we received totaled $23,698.53, but we ended the year with $2,447.48 still outstanding which will still have to pay.”
Moore said the food ministry’s budget totals only $30,000 for the year.
“Our budget is very meager and fuel and power are our greatest expenses,” Moore said. “I’ve had some churches tell me that they have figured their donations to our ministry into their budgets and plan to make donations every month rather than special donations at different times during the year. I hope that’s something that other churches, clubs and organizations will consider.”
Moore said he is willing to address other churches, clubs, groups, businesses and other organizations about The Potters Storehouse and its food ministry. He also invited them to visit the church during its distributions to see what it is doing to help the needy of Union County and surrounding communities.
The distribution dates for The Potters Storehouse for 2013 is:

While most of the distributions will be on Wednesdays, the second distributions in November and December are on a Tuesday and Saturday, respectively. Moore said this was because the fourth Wednesdays of those months fall on Thanksgiving and Christmas, respectively.
