Saturday, January 19, Jacob’s Well will be having their second food distribution and clothing distribution. It will be starting at 9 a.m. Breakfast will be at 8:30 a.m. if you are interested.

Refuse To Be A Victim

Refuse to be a victim seminar last Saturday had a pretty good response, from what I heard. I had to work, but Ailene said there was some great ideas to follow to be safe. When things slow down at the Town Hall I’ll get her to tell me more. And I’ll clue you in, free of charge.

Planning Workshop

A planning workshop on economic growth and revitalization will take place in Lockhart at the end of January. Community Regional Solutions will conduct the workshop on January 29-31. We got a $60,000 grant from the Catawba Regional Council of Government for the Rural Business Enterprise Grant administration.

This is open to the public, not just in Lockhart but all the surrounding areas. We need your input on revitalization of our town, and stimulate further economic growth. We’ve stayed in close contact with Pacolet who have already experienced this program. As a matter of fact, the mayor is on one of our committees. So we would love to have you also.

The public is encouraged to attend a kick-off town hall meeting and final presentation the project. The town hall meeting will be conducted at First Baptist Church of Lockhart, 112 Mill St. The final presentation will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lockhart.

Illness

This weather has my sinuses really acting up. I’ve sneezed every day, and kept a vise gripping headache, all in the sinus area.

Well, after going to bed with a icy wash cloth last night, I decided to take action! I went to see Dr. Sherman Miller, she got rid of my migraines so surely she can handle sinuses. After a wonderful rolling experience on those fabulous tables that we all want to take home, and I believe the heat loosens the muscles also.

Anyway, my neck muscles were so sore, but she laid my head in her hands and stretched the muscles and worked her fingers and snapped all the bones back into place, and what do you know, as usual she made the headache and pain go away. I knew she could do it. After all the spur in my foot is gone, thanks to her.

At The Movies

Tonight I watched “Zero Dark Thirty.” It’s all about a team of intelligence and military operatives working in secret on a manhunt to eliminate Osama bin Laden. It was really a good film about a female CIA agent who wouldn’t give up until she convinced the government that she figured out where he was and finally took the Cardinals in to get him. It was a three-hour movie, but it took you into every detail.

The other day I saw “Gangster Squad.” I liked it, but when I read People Magazine, they cut it down and said it was a waste of good actors. But they didn’t like “Django,” either. It was all about the mob and the good law, because there was also some bad lawmen that were paid off by the mob. Well, it was enjoyable. Maybe my next job should be a movie critic. This is fun. But what happens when we’ve used up all our movie tickets? Guess I should stick to doing hair.

Birthdays

I’ve been neglecting birthdays, so sorry. So let’s see what we’ve missed. Deborah Horne’s was the 4th of January. David Denton on the 5th and Jeryld Smallwood on the 6th. Brenda Jenkins’ was the 13th. Pat Fowler’s was the 14th. His son J.P.’s was 15th and Billie Gault’s is the 19th. And we can’t forget Laura Dabbs on the 18th.

Twins Lexie Cribb (in Texas) and Lisa Bently (N.C.) will have a birthday the 22nd. Sandy West on the 25th. I just saw that Pete Stachler’s is the 17th, Tracy Vanderford is on the 18th. Stephanie Duncan is on the 26th and Sherri Turner on the 28th. All of this is in case I forget the rest of the month to mention birthdays.

Anthills

What about all these anthills everywhere in our yards. The one in my backyard looks about as high as my hill that I already have from boulders that make up my yard. At the shop I counted six and that is just in the front yard. I haven’t checked out the backyard yet. I went to town today and bought two big bags of poison. With all this rain I guess I have to wait to use it and by the time I can I should have a few more hills. I’ve never had them this high before.

Strange Weather

What will the weather be like tomorrow? Last week we had heavy frost, then a few days ago it almost hit 80, now we have cool rains. Well, you just don’t know what to wear when you leave home because in a few hours you may get too cold or too hot. Anyway, it’s better than snow.

Skiing

Speaking of snow, how many got to go skiing this winter? Some of my customers went and said they had a good time.

I remember how pretty the snow is on the slopes, under the lights at night. That’s when my family would go skiing. My stepfather was a ski instructor at the slopes by my house, so he started my children out very young on the slopes.

I can remember when I started as a late teen, somehow my skis would go faster than my body wanted to and I rolled down the hill or was that a flop flop flop! Well, he told me that if I fell to just relax so I wouldn’t break anything so that is just what I would do. I finally learned how to stay on my feet.

When my kids started they did great. But kids have no fear.

Anyway, we left our skis in Michigan because I didn’t know people skied down here.

Wisdom

Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what happens to him.

Warning Of Danger

As the stranger enters a country store, he spots a sign: “Danger! Beware of Dog!” Inside, he sees a harmless old hound asleep in the middle of the floor.

“Is that the dog we’re supposed to beware of?” he asked the owner.

“That’s him” comes the reply.

“He doesn’t look dangerous to me. Why would you post that sign?”

“Before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him.”

Johnny’s mother stops to watch her son read the Bible to their cat.

“Isn’t that sweet?” she says.

But an hour later she hears a terrible racket. Running out the door, she finds Johnny stuffing the cat into a bucket of water.

“Johnny, what are you doing?”

“I’m baptizing Muffin,” he replies.

“But cats don’t like to be in water.”

“Well then, he shouldn’t have joined my church.”

Safety

Try to slow your cars down in the early morning, you might save a child’s life. Thanks.

Now I’ll say good night, until next week. 545-6652.
