Union County’s plan to snap a nine game losing streak was halted on Tuesday night with a last minute shot at Broome.
The Jackets trailed by nine points in the final frame before knotting it up twice in the final 60 seconds of action. Tied at 48-48, Union County made the mistake of sending Terrance Oglesby to the line where the Broome guard drained a pair of free throws.
The Jackets had one last possession but a turnover put the ball back in Broome’s hands and ended the game for the 50-48 final. Recus Hughes poured in 21 points for Union County.
The Lady Jackets overcame an eight point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Broome, 71-67. Kristin Giles led Union County with 33 points and Mari Eison chipped in 15 points.
With the win, the Lady Jackets improve to 10-3 overall, 2-0 in Region III-AAA.
