LOCKHART — A former Grand Supreme Wee Miss Lockhart is now the new 2012 Miss LMS.

In a statement released Thursday, Sarah Jones, science teacher at Lockhart Schools and sponsor of the Lockhart Middle School Science Club, announced the winners of the 2012-2013 Miss LMS pageant.

Jones said the pageant, which is sponsored by the Science Club, was held at the Lockhart Schools auditorium. She said the following award winners were recognized in each grade:

• Elizabeth Parks was crowned Cover Queen and the new 2012-2013 Miss LMS.

• Mariah Boler was named Talent Winner and Cover Princess.

• Cheyenne Gist was crowned Dream Girl and sixth-grade Princess.

• Chasity McCluney, an eighth-grader, was crowned Miss Congeniality

• Aubrey Garner, a sixth-grader, and Alyssa Temple, an eighth-grader, were the People’s Choice Winners.

Parks’ mother, Casey, said her daughter was very excited about being named Cover Queen and Miss LMS. She said her daughter and the other students participating in the pageant worked very hard to make the event a success.

“She was very excited to win,” Casey Parks said. “She worked very hard and so did all the rest of the girls. It is a very involved process and they all worked very hard to be their very best.”

Parks said the pageant actually consists of two pageants.

“There’s the Morning Pageant which is open to anybody and includes different age groups,” Parks said. “The kids dress in formal attire for the Morning Pageant.”

Parks said her daughter has previously competed in the Morning Pageant and in 2003 was named Grand Supreme Wee Miss Lockhart.

“Then there’s the Evening Pageant which is for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students,” Parks said. “They do an opening number and everybody introduces themselves. There is an optional talent portion, but that does not count toward their final score. Then there’s the beauty competition where they wear formal attire.”

Jones said The Miss LMS Pageant is the Science Club’s annual fundraiser. She said the proceeds from the pageant help fund student field trips, STEMS Fair/Science Fair projects, the purchase of computer software, and provide for classroom pets.

The club’s officers are Heather Petty (president), Chasity McCluney (vice president), Gabby Garcia and Elizabeth Parks (secretaries) and Hunter Plemmons (treasurer).
