For two days, the people of Union County and anyone else fortunate enough to be here will get to enjoy music, fun activities for both children and adults and a variety of food including funnel cakes, smoothies, fries, peanuts, snowcones, ice cream and, of course, BBQ and hash.
The BBQ and hash are the product of the centerpiece of the festival, the cooking competition that this year features 24 teams tempting the taste buds of the judges to secure the coveted declaration of best BBQ around and the $1,500 grand prize.
One of the great things about this year’s festival is that anyone can be a judge. The festival is holding its first ever Taster’s Choice in which persons who purchase a $5 wristband from the Union Civitan Club will be allowed to stop at each competitor’s station between noon-2 p.m. Saturday and get 2 ounces of their BBQ. The Civitans will use the money raised from the sale of wristbands to help programs that benefit Union County.
Good food at a great price and you get to help out your community in the process. That’s reason enough to turn out for the Uniquely Union BBQ Festival.
Beyond that, however, is an even more important reason for Union County residents to attend the festival. Uniquely Union is just that, unique to Union County and we should all show our appreciation for the uniqueness of the festival and the community for which it is named through our presence and participation.
Union County is a great place to live, to raise a family and to do business and the festival embodies many of this county’s best elements. The BBQ competition embodies our creativity, our striving for excellence and our entrepreneurial spirit. The music and activities are family-oriented and family-friendly just like our community. The Taster’s Choice fundraiser embodies our habits of charitable activities, support of organizations that help those in need and our commitment to make our community an even better place to live.
That’s why there’s no better place for a Union County resident to be this weekend other than at the Uniquely Union BBQ Festival.
It’s an opportunity to come together to show our support for the festival that embodies much of what is best about us, welcome visitors to our community, have good wholesome family fun, support worthy causes and, of course, enjoy some really great BBQ.
