During a relatively brief meeting of the Union County School District Board of Trustees, the board unanimously approved a personnel report presented by assistant superintendent for personnel and pupil services Lewis Jeter. The report included the hiring of Lisa Hartley who will be teaching chemistry and physical science at UCHS.
Hartley previously taught chemistry and physics at Chester High School and most recently served as executive director of the Union County Pregnancy Center on a volunteer basis. Hartley was hired due to a space created when Annette Vaughn — who taught anatomy and horticulture — accepted a different position in another district.
In other business, the board approved the second reading of Policy GBEBDA by a unanimous vote. The policy concerns criminal background checks for new hires, volunteers and chaperones.
Superintendant Dr. Kristi Woodall informed the board that Lockhart Schools had received several grants. During the summer, Lockhart received the Beyond Question Grant and the Sylvandell Resource Grant. During the first week school was in session, Lockhart also received 3 Donors Choose grants.
Director of secondary education Cindy Langley informed the board of various ongoing professional development projects, detailing various teacher in-services and workshops.
Financial officer Lynn Lawson also presented the monthly budget report and stated it was too early in the fiscal year to see much activity.
“This early in the fiscal year, it’s not a trend that is going to show you anything but it is on target,” Lawson said.
