Two Union County men have been charged in connection with a bank robbery in Spartanburg earlier this week.

Harold David Scott III is charged by the Spartanburg Police Department with armed robbery and and entering a bank with the intent to steal. Authorities allege Scott entered the First Citizens Bank, 1894 East Main St., Spartanburg just before noon Tuesday and handed the teller a note demanding money. He did not display a weapon during the robbery and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Scott was taken into custody just after 6:30 p.m. by deputies of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff David Taylor said his office had received information that Scott had been dropped off on Honeybee Circle off the Sardis Road. Taylor said deputies went there to look for Scott and brought in the county’s K-9 unit to search the nearby woods. He said Scott was located 100 yards into the woods by the K-9 unit and taken into custody without incident.

Taylor said Scott was taken back to the sheriff’s office where he was held until Sparanburg police arrived to question him. He said they then transported Scott back to Spartanburg.

Francis Johnson III has also been arrested and charged with accessory before the fact of a felony and accessory after the fact of a felony. Taylor said Johnson turned himself in at the sheriff’s office around 3 p.m. Thursday. He said Johnson was also turned over to the Spartanburg police.

Taylor said Scott is a resident of 107 Ferguson Lane, Union while Johnson is a resident 405 Drugstore St., Buffalo.
