The ongoing renovation of the Union County Carnegie Library is the latest example of just what a good friend Timken is. The last few years have seen the library deal with cuts in state funding that have forced it to make some painful choices in order to keep operating. Normally, that might have required the library to delay undergoing needed renovations to continue the process of making itself more user-friendly. It didn’t have to do that because a good friend was able to step in and offer a helping hand.
That was the Timken Foundation which provided the library with a $140,000 grant for the renovation of its reading areas, computer areas and book stacks. The process is ongoing but the public is already enjoying the more comfortable furniture in the reading area with more improvements to come. Other renovations include establishing separate sections for small children, juveniles and teens; new computers; and electrical work. These are the latest in a series of improvements the library has undergone making an already great institution even better.
This would not be possible without the help of Timken which continues to play a positive role in the life of this county. To date, the Timken Foundation has issued $1.1 million worth of grants to this county. It was Timken that, first, donated the land for the sports complex that bears its name and, later, funds to help build it.
Timken made the complex possible just as it did the renovations now underway at the library. The company is a good friend to Union County, its people and it’s institutions and we’re certain that in the years ahead whether it be more improvements at the library or some other worthwhile project, Timken will continue to be a good friend to this community.
