A two-car collision in Union on Saturday afternoon resulted in injuries to the two drivers and one passenger.

The collision occurred at 3:15 p.m. July 17 at the intersection of US 176 and SC 49 beside Bell Exxon. William E. Whitney, 62, 157 Whitney Road, Union, was traveling south on US 176 when he allegedly disregarded a traffic light and struck the right side of a 2010 Cadillac SUV driven by Teresa L. Daniel, 45, 132 Polo Court, Ninety-Six. Daniel and a passenger — Alicia Daniel, 22, of the same address — were traveling west on SC 49.

Both drivers were restrained but Daniel was not wearing a seat belt. Airbags in both vehicles deployed and all three people involved were transported to Wallace Thomson Hospital.

The accident was turned over to the South Carolina Highway Patrol by the Union Public Safety Department because Whitney is the attorney for the City of Union.

Whitney was charged with disregarding a traffic control device.
