A man who reported a fire that destroyed a house in Buffalo has been charged with allegedly settting it.

William Allen Wallace, 38, 103 Haney Road, Buffalo, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with arson third-degree.

The incident report states firefighters were dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. July 7 in response to a report by Wallace of a fire at 119 Haney Road. Firefighters were unable to prevent the blaze from destroying the building which was vacant at the time and did not have electricity.

A supplemental incident report states after a review of the initial report, inspection of the scene and interviews with neighbors and Wallace himself, investigators determined Wallace had set the fire. A warrant was issued for Wallace’s arrest and he was taken into custody Monday evening.

The supplemental report puts damage to the house at $117,000.

Drug Arrest

A cracked windshield and not wearing a seatbelt helpded a Jonesville man end up in jail on drug charges last Friday.

Emzlie Montrail Young, 24, 361 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Jonesville, is charged by the sheriff’s office with possession of marijuana and possession of crack cocaine.

The incident report states that on Friday afternoon narcotics officers observed Young was not wearing a seatbelt while riding as a passenger in a vehicle that had a cracked windshield. They stopped the vehicle at the intersection of SC 9 and SC 18. They asked for and received permission from the driver to search the vehicle.

When they removed Young from the vehicle, officers asked him if he had anything in his pockets and he said no. They then asked him if it was okay for them to check and he said yes. The report states they located a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana, along with $214 cash, in his pants pocket. Officers seized the money because of the possession of narcotics and, the report states, Young has no means of gainful employment.

The incident report states deputies were dispatched Friday evening to a residence at 195 Alberta Road in reference to an assault. The victim told the deputies she had been assaulted by Bowden. She said Bowden had gotten out of the truck and when she asked him to get back in he hit her arm and grabbed her by the upper arm causing bruises.

A second victim said they were coming back from the river when Bowden jumped out of the truck. She said she got out and asked him to get back in and he turned and hit her in the jaw. The report states the second victim had a red mark on her jaw and scratch to her left leg.
