LANCASTER — Another Union County youth baseball team is celebrating victory after winning the District 2 All-Star Tournament earlier this week.
The 2010 Dixie Darlings All-Star Team — captained by head coach Stacey Kicidis — defeated rival Lancaster on Monday, June 28, in just three innings, shutting the home team out 10-0 in the 8- and 9-year-old girls tournament to claim the district title.
The Dixie Darlings were the team to beat in this year’s district tournament, according to Kicidis, racking up more than 15 homeruns in just three games, making several double plays and only allowing one run to be score in their last two games in Lancaster.
The girls went undefeated in the tournament and will advance to the state tournament this weekend, July 9, hosted by Dentsville in Richland County.
But it wasn’t necessarily an easy district title to win.
“The Union Dixie Darlings drew their biggest rival for the first game in the district tournament, Lancaster,” Kicidis said.
The Union County girls came out on top of that game, pounding Lancaster by a score of 22-10 and advancing to the winners bracket. They next played Chester in game two and won that match up 26-1.
The team is lead by Kicidis and three assistant coaches: Michael Kicidis, Jeff Stepp and Clarence Burgess.
