Some people really will steal anything, including a wheelchair.

An incident report filed with the Union County Sheriff’s Office states an electric-powered wheelchair was stolen from the backyard of a residence at 3211 Whitmire Highway sometime between midnight April 1 and noon June 22. The “Jazzy” model wheelchair is valued at $2,500.

Dog Stolen

A woman woke up Tuesday morning to discover someone had stolen her pitbull.

The incident report states the woman told the responding sheriff’s deputy she’d last seen her dog around 1 a.m. that morning. She said the dog always stayed on the front portch.

The animal is a seven-month-old white, female pitbull with a brown spot on her left ear. It is valued at $150.

Vehicle Stolen

It had been broken down for a year but that didn’t stop someone from stealing a car from a vacant lot at 102 Hill Top Road Extension earlier this week.

The incident report states the theft took place sometime between 3 p.m. Monday and 2 p.m. Wednesday. The victim said the car was broken down and had been parked on the lot for one year. She described the vehicle as a champagne-colored 1995 Toyota Camry with a spoiler on the back. The vehicle is valued at approximately $3,000.

Vehicles Vandalized

Two people returning from vacation got an unpleasant surprise when they discovered vandals had scratched up their vehicles. The incident report states the vehicles were damaged sometime between midnight June 5 and just before 6 p.m. Monday. The vehicles — a blue 2002 Jeep Liberty and a blue Ford Escape — were parked at 656 Eisontown Road.

The report states the vehicles each had a scratch on the passenger side consistent from the front fender to rear bumper. Total damage was estimated at $1,000.

Shots Fired

Deputies were dispatched to 130 Sardis Road Wednesday night in reference to shots being fired. The victim told them that around 11:43 p.m. she heard two gunshots from the roadway outside her home. She said there were several males standing in front of her property at the time of the shooting and they told her a green vehicle — possibly a BMW or Volkswagon — with tinted windows had driven by and one of the passengers had fired twice into the air. The vehicle then sped off and turned down Lovers Lane Road.

The victim said she did not see the car and by the time deputies arrived the males who’d told her about it were gone. She was unable to provide the deputies with the names of males and deputies were unable to find any empty shell casings at the scene.

No one was injured in the incident.

Malicious Damage/Larceny

Some people have so little respect for other people’s property that they’ll even break into a ladies restroom condom machine.

The incident report states that sometime between 8 a.m. Sunday and 8 p.m. Monday someone broke into the condom machine on the wall of the ladies restroom of a convenience store at 2908 Furman Fendley Highway. The complainant told the responding deputy that money and condoms with a total estimated value of $100 was taken from the machine. Damage to the machine was estimated at $50.

Arrests

The following persons were arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Office:

Michael David Whisenant, 44, 1534 S. Church St., Whitmire, charged Wednesday with two counts of fraudulent check.

George Gilliam, 58, 306 Hill St., Union, charged Wednesday with driving under suspension third or more offense.
