Jailers were forced to use a Taser twice on an inmate whose attempt to escape from the Union County Jail left one jailer injured.

Carl Edward Inman, 48, 126 Bob Little Road, Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with attempted escape from the jail.

The incident report states deputies were dispatched to the jail Tuesday morning to assist in restraining an inmate. When deputies arrived, they found the inmate, Inman, contained in a holding cell.

The jailers told the deputies they had opened Inman’s cell door to get a food tray and he had rushed out. They said they took Inman to the floor and had to tase him. Despite this, Inman still managed to make his way to the front door of the jail and while he was exiting the main door that leads to the sallyport he was tased again. They then managed to get him back in the building but jailers said he continued to resist until they got him back in the holding cell.

The report states one jailer was injured in the process and had to go to Wallace Thomson Hospital for medical treatment.

The deputies entered the holding cell to get all the metal prongs that were still in Inman from the Taser. The report states he was restrained in a chair while the deputies cleared the room.

The incident report states the victim told the responding deputy he and Brandon were having an argument and she pushed him and he pushed her back causing her to fall off the porch. She then told Keenan and the third individual whom the victim said assaulted him together with Brandon subsequently attacking him as well.

Once the fight was over, the victim said he went to a relative’s house to get a shotgun to make his assailants leave. He said one of them pulled a knife and he hit him with the stock of the shotgun.
