
Officials stand with the supporters of this year’s Fourth of July Celebration which the county is continuing to sponsor despite budget cuts. Union County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair reported to county council members during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday about $4,000 has been raised for the event which cuts the cost by about half. Several events and activities are planned for the celebration.
“Forty-five days ago, our Fourth of July celebration was in jeopardy,” said Union County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair.
Sinclair thanked all the sponsors for their support of the event.
The celebration will include a performance from the band Highway 49. Also featured will be a fireworks show conducted by Mike Sumner of East Coast Pyrotechnics. Parties R Us will also be selling children’s wristbands for access to inflatable slides set up at the event.
Cpt. Robbie Hines was also in attendance at the meeting and promised the Union County Sheriff’s Department would make sure to get everyone in and out of the event safely.
“Security is something nobody pays attention to, but it’s so important,” Hines said.
Sponsors are separated into four different sponsorship levels:

“It will be an inexpensive way for families to come out and have fun,” said Union County Recreation Department Program Director Heather Randall. “I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce for all their hard work and all the sponsors for keeping this event going when we thought we weren’t going to get to have it.”
