Strong Armed Robbery
A man who had his gun stolen from him wasn’t about to let it go so easily, struggling with the thief and then chasing him, first on foot and then by car.
Devontea Marquis Fonteneau, 17, 309 South Church St., Union, is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with strong armed robbery.
The incident report states an officer was called to 500 Hart St. Wednesday morning in reference to a strong armed robbery. The officer spoke with the victim who said he was removing his Taurus 9mm handgun from the glove box of his vhicle to take the gun inside his residence when he was approached by two black males, one of whom grabbed the gun from his hand. The victim said that during the esnuing struggle he pressed the clip release and the clip fell out of the gun.
The two males began walking away with the other telling the one with the gun “man you trippin’.” The male with the gun then turned around and told the victim to “come and get it.”
The victim did just that, initially walking after the males to try and retrieve his gun. They ran and the victim got in his car and followed the male who had taken his gun, following him down a back alley toward Louise Street then to Cottage Avenue and then Rectors Alley before losing sight of the male around the 100 block of Broad St. He said the other male had split off and ran in a different direction.
Officers established a perimeter around the area and began searching for the thief on foot. The report states the officers walked onto a porch on Broad Street and found a black male sitting there who matched the description — white t-shirt, blue jeans, short hair and a patch of hair on his chin — given by the victim. The male was sitting in a chair with the white t-shirt beside him.
The report states officers identified the male as Fonteneau, advised him of the recent robbery call and advised him he fit the description of the suspect. They directed him to stand up so he could be frisked for weapons. When Fonteneau stood up, the report states officers notice a silver handgun fitting the description of the victim’s weapon in the chair where he’d been sitting. They recovered it and determined it was the gun that had been stolen.
The victim subsequently identified Fonteneau as the male who robbed him. Fonteneau was then placed under arrest for strong armed robbery.

The incident report states deputies were dispatched to Alexander’s residence Wednesday morning in reference to a domestic dispute and a fight. The dispatcher informed deputies that the caller had said she was being choked, but there was no further information as the call had been disconnected.
When deputies arrived, Alexander told them she was the one who called 911 and that the victim had choked her and hit her in the stomach several times during an argument. Deputies, however, were unable to see any injuries or redness on Alexander’s neck or stomach.
They did, however, notice a laceration below the victim’s left eye. They asked how that had happened and he told them Alexander had hit him in the eye. Alexander then said she hit him in the eye to get him off of her.
The victim said Alexander had initiated the argument because she was mad at him for helping someone who owed her $10 to fix a lawn mower. Alexander told deputies a neighbor had witnessed the choking incident but when they questioned him he said he saw Alexander and the victim arguing but never saw it get physical.
Alexander was then placed under arrest for criminal domestic violence but the report states the victim then became angry and refused to cooperate with deputies. It states he refused to let them take photos of his injury and would not give a written statement.
