CHARLOTTE, NC — Hazel Thomas Copeland, 63, 5700 Craftsbury Dr., died June 2, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Union County, she was the wife of Grover Lee Copeland of the home and the daughter of Mary Cole Thomas of Union and the late James Edward Thomas.
She was a member of Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church, a graduate of Sims High School, and a former reservationist with Eastern Airlines.
Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include her children, Anita (Terry) Thomas of Charlotte, NC, Arthur U. (Mavis) Smith, Jr. of San Diego, CA, and Ebonie A. Ross-Copeland of Greensboro, NC; a stepdaughter, Devolia (Rodney) Sweet of Greensboro; four brothers, James Lewis Thomas of Asheville, Joe Robert Thomas and Clifford (Rhonda) Thomas, both of Union, and Anthony Thomas of Greenville; one sister, Cynthia (Charlie) White of Union; four grandchildren, Brittney Latter, Jazmine Thomas, Tia Smith, and Rachel Sweet.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Ronald Thomas and a sister, Patricia Thomas Craig.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Mount Hopewell Baptist Church, 8735 Lockhart Hwy., Sharon, SC. Rev. Raymond T. Davis, Sr. officiated. Burial was in the Church Cemetery. The body was placed in the church at noon. The family received friends at the home of her mother, 130 Adams Lake Rd., Union.
