UNION, SC — Mrs. Peggy Lee Bettis, wife of C. Marvin Bettis, 202 Glendale Rd., Union, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 at Spartanburg Restorative Care following a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Bettis was born in Union, July 3, 1928, a daughter of the late William Minter Lee and Ada Adams Lee. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Limestone College. Mrs. Bettis was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Union for over 56 years and served as Executive Director of United Way of Union County for over 15 years. Mrs. Bettis was predeceased by her brother, Robert E. Lee.

Surviving in addition to her husband Charles Marvin Bettis are a daughter, Mary Lee Cantey of Spartanburg and her two children, Field Cantey of Charlotte, NC and Lee Cantey of Spartanburg; a son, Charles M. Bettis, Jr. of Columbia; three sisters-in-law, Patty Osborne Lee of Columbia, Catherine Bettis Flenniken and Louise Bettis Piazza and husband of Kingsport, TN; two nieces, Anne Lee of Charleston and Cathy Piazza Liley of Kingsport, TN and three nephews, Louis Lee of Newport News, VA, Andy Piazza of Atlanta, GA and Matthew Piazza of Herndon, VA.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Robert Alexander.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Ladies Parlor of First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Union, P.O. Box 672, Union, SC 29379.

The family is at the home, 202 Glendale Rd., Union.
