A Union man is in jail after allegedly trying to sexually assault two women and then attempting to intimidate them into silence by threatening to have them arrested for hitting him with a wooden clock.

Charles Dennis Anderson, 55, 172 Coon Hunt Club Road, Union, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

The incident report states on Friday afternoon one of the victims reported she and the other victim went to Anderson’s house earlier in the day to sell him a laptop and he tried to sexually assault them. She said when she tried to get away Anderson hit her in the face with his fist and reached into her pants. To defend herself and to get Anderson off of her, she grabbed a wooden clock and hit him in the head with it, causing him to bleed.

The other victim said Anderson pushed her down on the couch and fell on her also.

The report states both victims were eventually able to get away in their vehicle but Anderson chased them in his vehicle up the driveway until they ran into a tree. The victim told deputies Anderson said he was going to call the police and tell them he was assaulted with the clock and that because of this they didn’t report the incident until later in the day.

The report states the victims gave a detailed description of what Anderson was wearing and gave written statements. A search warrant for Anderson’s home was obtained and the subsequent search turned up what appeared to be a spot of blood, possibly the victim’s, on the front step of the residence. A spot of what is believed to be Anderson’s blood was found on a wooden clock. Samples from both were taken for analysis.

Anderson was taken into custody Friday evening and transported to the Union County Jail.

Criminal Domestic Violence

Christopher Keith Becknell, 27, 4171 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, is charged by the sheriff’s office with criminal domestic violence and assault and battery.

The incident report states a deputy met Sunday night with two women and a man about a domestic disturbance. One of the women told the deputy Becknell had been drinking throughout the evening and the two of them began to argue. She said she and the other woman went into the bathroom to get away from Becknell but he forced his way in, knocking down the second woman.

The first woman said Becknell then pushed the woman he knocked down foricing his way in. She said he then grabbed her with both hands by the wrists and started hitting her under her chin with her own fists. The woman said she then hit Becknell and then he struck her with papers that were in his hands.

The woman who had been knocked down confirmed Becknell knocked her down, forcing his way into the bathroom. The first woman said Becknell took her keys and left the residence on foot.

The report states Becknell returned to the residence while deputies were questioning the three people and he admitted he had been drinking, they did get into an argument and he left before law enforcement arrived. Becknell was then placed under arrest and charged with criminal domestic violence in the case of the first woman and assault and battery in the case of the second woman.

Deputies also questioned the man who they saw with a gun in his hand when they arrived. The man told them he had gotten the gun to protect himself from Becknell because he wasn’t sure how he would act once he returned to the residence. He said he saw Becknell hit the woman with papers in his hand.

Attempted Armed Robbery

A Union man ended up in jail barely an hour after he allegedly tried to rob a woman in a wheelchair.

Ernest J. Favors, 38, 219 South Church St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with attempted armed robbery.

The incident report states the victim told deputies she was riding an electric wheelchair to a conveniece store late Friday night when she passed Favors who was standing in front of a church. As she was leaving the store she said she saw him going in. When she got to the intersection of Moore Avenue and Railroad Street, she said Favors ran up behind her, grabbed her wheelchair, put something to her back and told her to give him all she had. The victim said she told him she didn’t have anything but he said she did because he saw her come out of the store. She said she told him she was going to call the police and he told her she would regret it if she did. He then ran away and she went home and called the police.

The report states the woman said the man was wearing a blue shirt and black pants. An officer located Favors in front of the church the victim said he had been standing in front of when she passed him on the way to the store. The officer took Favors to the victim’s residence where she positively identified as the man who attempted to rob her.

Favors was transported to jail where he remained as of Wednesday afternoon.

Firearm Possession

A man who tried to flee from Union Public Safety Officers when they attempted to serve warrants on him is now facing a firearm violation charge.

Solomon Maurice Gore, 19, 309 S. Church St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The incident report states on Friday a sheriff’s deputy received information Gore had a pistol he left at a residence at 220 Bobo St. in the Monarch Community. The deputy was able to retrieve the weapon, a Hi-Point .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol, from the residence and obtained statements from individuals who had seen Gore with the pistol in his possession and hide it at the residence. The report states as a convicted felon Gore is not allowed to possess a firearm.

Gore was arrested Friday by public safety officers after he ran from them on Lakeside Drive as they attempted to serve warrants on him for petit larceny and breaking into a vehicle. The warrants stem from an April 21 incident in which Gore allegedly broke into a car parked on Willow Lane and stole a wallet. He is also charged by the public safety department with resisting arrest.

Malicious Damage

A Union man learned the hard way that if you get drunk and punch out someone’s window screen you end up looking at the world through bars.

Adrian Lamar Gory, 32, 636 Rogerstown Road, Jonesville, is charged by the sheriff’s office with malicious damage.

The incident report states a deputy was dispatched Saturday afternoon to Gory’s residence in response to a report of a disturbance. When the deputy arrived he was told by the victim Gory was drunk and had punched a window screen with his fist, damaging the screen beyond repair. Gory, who the report states was on the porch, admitted he did it and he was placed under arrest after the victim said he wanted to press charges.

Drug Bust

One man was allegedly selling crack cocaine and another allegedly intended to sell marijuana but both ended up in jail.

Jessie Lee Rice, 22, 107 Hamlet St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with trafficking crack cocaine while James Earl Mobley, 18, 207 West Henrietta St., Union, is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The incident report states a deputy received information Rice, also known as Jesse Pop, and Mobley were in a green Crown Victoria with a large quantity of crack cocaine in their possession. Deputies and public safety officers were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The car was spotted on Gage Avenue and a traffic stop was made. The report states Mobley was the driver and Rice the passenger.

The report states as the two men were being questioned, law enforcement personnel heard Rice tell Mobley to run. Rice was observed removing a Newport cigarette box and digital scales from his front left pocket and throw them into the back seat. Both men were removed from the vehicle and placed in handcuffs.

The cigarette box was searched and found to contain approximately 17.5 grams of crack cocaine. A search of Mobley’s person turned up a small bag of marijuana in his front pants pocket. After the two were transported to jail, a search of Mobley turned up several small bags of marijuana in his underwear. A total of 14 grams of marijuana were found on Mobley and the report states because it was packaged for sale he was charged with possession with intent to distribute while Rice was charged with trafficking crack.

In addition to the drugs, deputies seized $312 in cash from Mobley and $535 from Rice. Their vehicle was also seized.
