The Lady Jackets picked up a specatular region win Friday edging Riverside 5-4.

Union County scored a run in the first inning when Kelsey Harris hit single and was sacrificed to second base by Megan Russell. Harris then moved to third base on an error courtesy of Andrea Eison and then scored on a fielders choice by Logan Wade.

Riverside however came back to score four runs on the Lady Jackets in the bottom of the first inning.

“We could have panicked in the first inning but the Lady Jackets had confidence in themselves and came back for a super win in the region,” coach Danny Gault said.

Union County answered Riverside’s scoring run with three of thier own runs and tied the game 4-4.

The Lady Jackets scored the winning run in the top of the sixth inning when Brooke Rollins singled and CC Morman came into the game as a courtesy runner. Morman went to second on a pass ball and Tiffany Vaughan lined a single back up the middle to score Morman from second base.

Riverside threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs Kelly Krainias singled and moved to second base on a error. The next Riverside batter hit a line drive to left field that was sinking and tailing away from the Yellow Jackets left fielder Sade’ Gibson who made a fantastic catch to end the game.

Union County (11-0 overall, 5-0 region) will face Blue Ridge 6:30 p.m. today on the road.
