The Yellow Jackets started the game off with five unanswered runs in the first inning. Darius Gilliam led off Union County with a homerun. Brett Duckett then hit a double allowing Joe Beatty and Taylun Wallace to cross home plate. Daniel Revis then singled allowing Duckett to score and Revis rounded to home on an error to end the five-run inning.
Joe Beatty gave Union County a 6-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homerun.
In the third inning, Revis singled to score Adam Lawson and Keiston Stevens reached home plate on a pitching error. The Jackets led 8-0. Landrum scored their only run of the game at the bottom of the third inning.
Union County’s batters continued to hit during the fourth inning scoring four more runs. Gilliam led off with a solo homerun, Duckett singled to score Kendrick Byrd and Revis had a two-run single to score Adam Lawson and Duckett. Union County led 12-1.
Josh Simpson led off the fifth inning with the Jacket’s fourth homerun of the game. Union County would go on to score four more runs in the inning. Josh Armstrong scored on a Stevens single, Stevens scored on a Rob Littlejohn double and Dylan Barber had a RBI single to give Union County the 17-1 lead.
After throwing three quick outs on Broome, the game was called at the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Yellow Jackets had 17 runs on 16 hits. The Jackets committed two errors. Broome had four errors. Rogers, the winning pitcher, threw two strikeouts.
On Tuesday, the Yellow Jackets were handed a 16-8 defeat by Greer on the road.
Union County (7-7 overall, 1-4 region) will next host Riverside 6 p.m. Friday.
