A father and son ended up in jail Monday night after a fight that left both of them and two other family members injured, including two who were cut with a knife.

Christopher Keith Peigler, 24, 114 Cedar St., Union, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature while his father, Kenneth Wayne Peigler Jr., 43, also of 114 Cedar St., Union, is charged with assault and battery.

The incident report states a deptuty was dispatched Monday night to the Peigler’s residence in response to a report of a stabbing. When the deputy arrived, he found Kenneth Peigler Jr., his father and his mother sitting in the kitchen. The report states Peigler, who was bleeding from his chest, said he had been stabbed by his son Christopher Peigler. The deputy saw the younger Peigler standing in the hallway and told him to lay down on the floor. He did as the deputy requested and was placed under arrest.

The deputy then spoke with Kenneth Jr.’s mother who said Chris had been drinking throughout the evening and got upset when his father told him he could not go and stay at a girlfriend’s house. She said after his father left, Chris got into an argument with his grandfather. When she tried to call Chris’ mother she said Chris pulled the phone from the kitchen wall breaking it and also broke the phone in the living room and his grandfather’s cell phone. She said he and his grandfather got into a fight that resulted in his grandfather falling to the floor where Chris began kicking him. To get Chris to stop attacking his grandfather, she said she laid on top of her husband.

The report states Chris’ grandmother then called his father on her cell phone and told him what had happened. She said everyone was sitting in the living room when Kenneth Jr. came in and began hitting Chris about the head and body with his fists. The ensuing fight only stopped when she got between her son and grandson and that was when she said she saw Kenneth Jr. bleeding from his chest. He told her he had been stabbed twice by Chris. The report states, in breaking up the fight between her son and grandson, their mother/grandmother had suffered a cut to a finger on her left hand.

Though he called 911 and was taken by Union County EMS to Wallace Thomson Hospital, Kenneth Jr. refused medical treatment. He was then transported to the Union County Jail where his son already was.

Before Chris was taken to jail, however, deputies recovered two, approximately four-inch knife blades from his person. The report states deputies observed blood on the blade of the knife taken from his right front pocket.

Kenneth Jr. told deputies when he returned to his home he found his son standing over his father and that he attacked Chris to get him to stop kicking his grandfather. The report states his parents, however, said things had calmed down when their son came in and started hitting their grandson. Chris also told deputies it had been after the incident with his grandfather that his father had returned to the house and began hitting him.
