Going into the game Riverside was ranked No. 6 and Union County was ranked No. 9 in the AAA Coaches Poll.
Lady Jacket Kelsey Harris led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, was sacrificed to third on a bunt by Megan Russell and came home on a ground out to the third baseman by Andrea Eison.
There was no more scoring until the fourth inning when Eison got a base hit, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on a pass ball.
Ashley Vaughan pitched a brilliant game for Union County giving up only three hits. Unfortunately it came in the top of the sixth inning. Klein from Riverside hit a triple and scored on a ground out, Vaughan got out off the inning with no more damage and in the seventh inning struck out two of the three batters she faced to win her fourth game of the season.
This was a important win for the Lady Jackets who are now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the region headed into Friday’s game against last year’s region champion Blue Ridge who defeated Clinton last night 17-1.
