Five Union County football players qualified to go to the state strength meet following the Region 8 Strength Meet at Gaffney last weekend. Two Yellow Jackets qualified earlier this year for state, which is set for March 27 at Crestwood in Sumter.

Out of nine players participating Saturday, five came away with medals. They are: Josh Armstrong, 1st place in the 140-pound weight class; Michael Johnson, third place in the 160-pound weight class; Stacy Peake, third place in the 180-pound weight class; Brian Wells, first place in the 205-pound weight class; Tate Knox, first place in the 220-pound weight class; Austin Miller, third place in the 260-pound plus weight class.

These athletes will compete with other regions all over the state to be named a state champion in their individual weight class.
