The Union County tennis team opened the regular season with a 4-3 win over Broome on Monday night.

In singles play, David Hope defeated Ogle 6-2, 6-2; Brett Ayers was beat 6-4, 7-5 by Horton; Jacob Robbins defeated Neary 6-0, 6-0; Joseph Sawyer lost 7-5, 6-2 to Harrell; and Matt Haney beat McKelvy 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles action, Hope and Robbins were defeated 8-5; and Andrew Adamo and Hunter Davis won 6-2, 6-2.

In JV play, Jacob Gault lost to Adams 6-4.

“It is always good to win. I thought we should of won 7-0,” coach Tom Adamo said. “Being the first match of the season, some of the guys were a little tight and did not play their own game and let there opponent take them out of the match.

“I have seen a lot of things that we must improve on and we will work on these issues at practice today,” Adamo said.
