Dixie Youth/Boys need umpires

Umpires are needed for Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys baseball leagues. A meeting for those interested in becoming umpires is set for noon Saturday at Union County Recreation.

Coaches sought for youth sports

The Union County Recreation Department is looking for coaches.

Those interested should come by the department at 111 E. Thomas Street and fill out an application, or call 429-1670.

County youth baseball

registration begins

The Union County Recreation Department will hold Youth Baseball Registration March 1 through March 19.

Age groups are: T-Ball (3-4 years old, must be 3 by Sept. 1, 2010); Coach Pitch (5-7 years old, cannot have turned 8 before Sept. 1, 2010); T-Shirt (7-9 and 10-12 years old). Fee to register is $35 per participant.

Parents should bring birth certificates and proof of medical insurance to registration. All fees must be paid at time of registration. Late registration will be held March 22-26. A $10 late fee will be charged.

Dixie Youth/Boys sign-ups extended

The Union Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys have extended sign-ups due to snow until Saturday.

Registration will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Recreation Department. Cost is $55 youth; $60 boys. For more information, call (864)762-6181.

Dixie girls softball registration Feb. 27

Sign-ups for Dixie Girls is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union County Recreation Department; 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at City Ball Park; noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jonesville Fire Dept. For more information call 441-3170.

Corn toss tourney benefits wrestling

Union County’s Corn Toss Championship, which benefits the school’s wrestling program, is set for March 20.

Corn Tossing is a sport in which competitors attempt to throw a beanbag into a small hole on a board.

The tournament, which will be held indoors at the Union County gym will be double-elimination. The first team to reach 21 points wins. Registration is $25. Day of event is $30. Spectators can watch for free.
