BREAKING NEWS: Trip to store becomes a nightmare

What started out as a trip to the store turned into a nightmare for a man who was dragged into a car, beaten, stabbed and robbed last weekend.

Union Public Safety officers were dispatched to a business at 214 North Pinckney St. shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday in response to a report of an armed robbery. When they arrived, the officer met the victim who said he had just been robbed and stabbed. The incident report states the victim had already taken his shirt off and showed officers where he was stabbed in the back. The victim said he felt like he needed to go to the hospital and an officer radioed dispatched to send the Union County EMS to the location.

The report states the victim told the officers he knew all three of the individuals who attacked him and identified them as Schavontee Glenn, Devonta Mobley and Danny Gossett. The victim said he left the business and walked up Main Street to get some High Quality H20 and turned left onto North Gadberry Street when a white Toyota Corolla occupied by four black males pulled up beside him. He said they asked him about some weed and he told them he didn’t know anything about weed.

The victim said Glenn and Gossett were in the backseat and Mobley in the front passenger seat, all of them wearing red bandanas over the lower part of their chins. He said the driver, who he knew by the name of Kevin, was not wearing a bandana on his face.

The victim said he was pulled into the car and beaten about his head. Pulled into the backseat, the victim said Glenn had him from behind around his neck, Gossett held a knife to his throat and Mobley was pointing a chrome .38 special revolver at him. He said he was also hit with the gun.

The victim said he managed to get out the car but was stabbed in the back in the process. He said he ran back to the business he left from and called 911.

In addition to assaulting him, the victim said his attackers stole $30 and his T-Mobile Gravity cell phone.

Schavontee Glenn, 17, 129 West Main St., Union; Devonta Elemeshion Mobley, 17, 124 Lawrence St., Carlisle; Danny Ray Gosset Jr., 19, 208 Leroy-Gossett Road, Union; and Kelvin Quatrez Gault, 19, 287 Labaw Road, Carlisle, were arrested early Friday morning and charged in the case. The four are charged with the following crimes:

• Mobley — Kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a firearm or knife during a violent crime.

• Gossett — Kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a firearm or knife during a violent crime.

• Gault — Kidnapping, armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill.

• Glenn — Kidnapping, armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill.

In addition to these charges, Glenn is charged with pointing a firearm in an incident that occurred Monday night. The victim said she was coming out of a convenience store at 100 North Duncan Bypass when Glenn drove up in a white jeep and pointed a gun at and her grandmother.

All four were still in the Union County Jail as of Friday afternoon.

Drug Arrest

A man was arrested Thursday on multiple drug charges for allegedly selling crack cocaine to undercover police operatives on four occassions in 2009.

Harry Lee Gore Jr., 20, 4296 Lockhart Highway, Lot 7, Union, is charged by the public safety department with four counts of distribution of crack cocaine and four counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school or playground.

The warrants for Gore’s arrest state he sold crack cocaine to undercover operatives at the following locations on the following dates:

• 908 South Duncan Bypass within a half mile of Excelsior School on Sept. 28, 2009.

• West Henrietta Street within a half mile of a playground on Oct. 2, 2009.

• 907 East Main St. within a half mile of Foster Park Elementary School on Sept. 17, 2009 (twice).

Gore was still in jail as of Friday afternoon.

Incidents

The following incidents are being investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office:

Malicious Damage

A deputy was dispatched to 221 Fire Lane on Thursday morning in response to a report of malicious damage to a building. The deputy was told that four windows were broken out of the old Buffalo Fire Department. The vandalism is believed to have taken place sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday. A brick was found inside the building near one of the broken windows and a piece of concrete outside another one. Damage was estimated at $500.

Larceny

A van that had been parked for three years at a residence at 330 River Road was reported stolen Thursday evening. The victim said he came home to find drag marks and tire tracks in his yard where the van was parked. The incident report states the responding officer observed tire tracks from a dual-wheeled vehicle and drag marks indicating some kind of trailer had been used where the wheel ramps made impressions in the mud.

The van is described as a 1985 or 1986 Toyota, burgundy and red in color with a burgundy interior. The vehicle was not operational and had at least one flat tire. It may also have a Christian tag on the front. The van is valued at $1,000.

Vehicle Theft

Officers are searching for the perons resonsible for the theft of a GMC S-15 from a parking lot at South Duncan Bypass on Wednesday morning. The vehicle was last seen on a trailer pulled by a grey four-door truck traveling on SC 215 toward Spartanburg.

Assault And Battery

Reach out and touch someone took on a whole new meaning Wednesday when an argument ended with a man being attacked with a telephone.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence at 449 Oakwood Road, Jonesville, in response to a report of an assault. The victim told the deputy an argument turned violent and he was hit several times about the head with a telephone receiver. The report states the responding officer observed cuts and bruises about the victim’s face and head.

Arrests

The following people were arrested by the sheriff’s office:

Larry Clayton Holtz, 53, 237 Beltline Road, Union, charged Thursday with breach of peace.

Kevin Stuart Dunnihoo, 34, Elan Way, Spartanburg, charged Wednesday with criminal domestic violence and trespass after notice.

Adrian J. Parham, 24, 104 Hicks St. Union, charged Thursday with driving under suspension.

Matthew William Austin, 28, 4105 Cross Keys Highway, Union, charged Wednesday with public drunk and four magistrate’s bench warrants.
