Union County started the night off strong with two three-point shots by Telvin Dawkins and trailing Fairfield Central by one point, 14-13, at the end of the first period.
Exchanging leads for most of the second period, Union County took a surprising 31-30 lead going into halftime off a 70-foot shot by Brett Smith at the buzzer. With less than a minute remaining in the half, the Jackets were down 27-23. Keiston Smith hit a three-point shot and was fouled. After making his two free-throw shots, Fairfield Centeral made a three-point shot to lead 30-28 with a few seconds remaining. That is when Brett Smith nailed his 70-foot shot.
Fairfield Central took a four-point lead early in the third period until Union County rallied on a small scoring run capped off with Brandon Stapleton taking the 38-37 lead off a free-throw shot. Joe Beatty made a jumpshot to tie the game 42-42 at the end of the fourth period.
The Griffins jumped out during the fourth period building a seven-point lead with 4:07 remaining in the game. Fairfield Central went on to make 13-14 free-throw shots in the fourth quarter, giving them the 69-60 win.
Stapleton led Union County in scoring with 20 points. Desmond Floyd had 13 points, Dawkins scored nine points, Keiston Smith had five points, T.J. Jeter scored three points and Beatty had two points.
The loss marks the end of the Yellow Jackets season who finish with a 11-13 overall record.
