Union County’s boys basketball team will begin their playoff run tonight against Fairfield Central in Winnsboro.

The Yellow Jackets (11-12 overall, 6-4 region) are coming off a frustrating 130-84 loss to No. 1-ranked Greer last Thursday. They enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seed.

Union County faces a 15-6 overall team coming off a 75-52 win over Chapin last Thursday.

After falling out of the Top 10 in the state’s 3A ranking in late December, the Griffins re-entered the rankings, taking the seven spot in last week’s Top 10 (according to Midlandpreps.com).

Fairfield dropped two of their first three region match-ups earlier this season, but has rebounded winning their past two region games.

Tip-off in Winnsboro is an earlier than usual 7 p.m.

The winner of tonight’s matchup will advance to the second round of the playoffs slated for Friday.
