WHITMIRE — A Whitmire home was destroyed by fire Wednesday, Feb. 10, after a kerosene heater was left unattended.

The fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon at 118 Duncan St.

When firefighters from the Whitmire and Consolidated Fire Department and the Whitmire Rescue Squad arrived on scene, flames were coming from the front of the singlewide mobile home, according to Whitmire Fire Chief Michael Thomas.

Thomas said the owner had left home to go eat with his mother and left the heater on. No one was at home at the time of the fire.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the man, who owned the home.
