JONESVILLE — Super Bowl Sunday turned out to be a super dud for two Jonesville men arrested during a raid on what authorities claim was an illegal gambling house.

Frank Henry Bryant, 52, 329 Elford Grove Road, is charged by The Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession of baseball tickets, operating a gambling house and unlawful possession of liquor. Morris William Talley, 58, 229 Eisontown Road, is charged by the sheriff’s office with disorderly conduct and unlawful gaming boards.

The two were arrested Sunday evening in a joint raid conducted by the sheriff’s office and the Jonesville Police Department. The incident report states the sheriff’s department narcotics unit received information on Jan. 27 that Bryant was gambling and selling alcohol on Sundays from an outbuilding located behind his mobile home.

On Sunday, the unit received additional information there was going to be a Super Bowl party in the outbuilding where there would be gambling and narcotics. With this information, a warrant was obtained to search the premises, persons, outbuildings, vehicles and containers on the property.

Just before 8 p.m. the deputies and officers served the search warrant. The report states during their search of the premises, law enforcement personnel found ball tickets scattered on the floor throughout the building. They also found tip boards and gambling notes; several bags of marijuana on the floor; a cooler full of beer with Bryant’s name on it; a bottle of Seagram’s Vodka and a bottle of E&J Brandy.

A search of Bryant turned up ball tickets and tip boards in his pocket. They also seized $87 in cash from Bryant’s wallet and $77 cash from underneath a bar inside the building near the tip boards and alcohol.

While searching Talley, law enforcement personnel found a ball ticket inside his coat pocket. The report states when told he was going to be charged with the ball ticket, Talley became loud and disorderly with the deputy. This got him the disorderly conduct charge.

Also arrested during the raid was Al Jariod Bell, 25, 350 Bryant Road, Spartanburg. Bell is charged by the Jonesville Police Department with burglary first-degree, trespassing after notice and three counts of malicious damage to personal property in connection with an incident on Jan. 7.

The incident report states that shortly before midnight Jan. 7, Bell allegedly went to an apartment at 109 Gault St. and began beating on the door. The victim said Bell had called her repeatedly that night but she refused to answer the phone. When she wouldn’t come to the door, the victim said Bell got a chair off the front porch and began hitting the door with it, breaking the window. She said he then reached in and unlocked the door.

Once inside, the victim said he went to her son’s room, busted open the door, seized the telephone and smashed it on the floor. He then left the apartment.

Bryant and Talley were transported to the Union County Jail where they were held until being released on bond Monday. Bell was also transported to the jail where he remained as of Monday evening.
