A late 1990s model Chevy S10 pickup truck went over an embankment and landed upside down about six miles outside Lockhart on South Carolina Highway 49 across from the entrance to John D. Long Lake on Friday afternoon. Above, Lt. Jeryle Smallwood with the Lockhart Fire Department continues assessing the scene of the accident. Smallwood reported the driver of the vehicle, whose name was not available by press time, was headed toward Lockhart on Hwy. 49 when the accident took place. He added the pickup’s driver was a little shaken following the accident but otherwise uninjured. He and two first responders from the Monarch Fire Department were the first to arrive at the scene and helped the driver out of the vehicle. The accident happened around 2 p.m. Friday. Responding to the incident were the Lockhart and Monarch fire departments, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the 900 and 1500 units of Union County EMS. No further information was available by press time Friday.
