Jackets face Spartanburg in football-season opener

The Yellow Jackets will face Region 3A powerhouse Spartanburg to kickoff the 2010 football season.

Union County's athletic department released this year's football schedule Friday and among other matchups is a Oct. 8 game with region-changing Chapin. Chapin switched to Region 3AAA for football only and replaces Riverside. Union County defeated Chapin 34-7 in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Spartanburg, which beat Union County 35-0 last season, made a run in the playoffs losing in the third round to Byrnes. The game is set for Aug. 27 in Spartanburg. The first home game is against Broome.

The Yellow Jackets which lost to Clinton 35-28 in the third round of the playoffs last season will face the Red Devils Oct. 21 at Union County Stadium.

Homecoming is slated for Oct. 15 against Chapman. The Hall of Fame game is scheduled for Sept. 24 against Woodruff. Senior Night is Oct. 29.

Union County will begin getting ready for football season on Aug. 13 with the Clinton Jamboree and a scrimmage at Union County Stadium on Aug. 20.
