Ronnie Lee Coleman, 53, 309 East Williams St., is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with shoplifting in connection with an incident at a local grocery store.
Officers were dispatched to the store at 907 East Main St. shortly before 1 p.m. Friday in response to a report of a shoplifter. The owner told officers a short time earlier he was informed by a customer a black male had stuck a two-pack of ribeye steaks in his pants and walked out of the store. The owner said he viewed the security tape and saw the black male pick up the pack of steaks then go to aisle two and conceal them in the front of his pants. He made a CD of the tape and turned it over to the officers.
A little more than four hours later officers had identified the man taking the steaks as Coleman and a warrant was signed for his arrest. Coleman was taken into custody shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday.
More Shoplifting
Another Union man is being charged with shopliting by the public safety department for allegedly stealing a can of beer from another customer at a conveniece store.
The incident report states footage was taken between 11:55 p.m. Jan. 15 and 12:10 a.m. Jan. 16 showing a black male paying for the items he purchased and the clerk putting them in a bag. It then shows the man take a 24-oz. can of beer that belonged to another customer, put it in his bag and then leave the store without paying for it.
Authoritites identified the man in the footage as Paul Gene Thompson, 35, 219 South Church St., and took him into custody on Monday.

Vandalism
An officer was dispatchded to a residence at 122 Horseshoe Circle on Friday morning in response to a report of an act of vandalism. The victim told the officer when she came outside to take her children to school she noticed her 2000 Ford Expedition was scratched with some type of sharpe object, the front grill had been pulled out and was lying on the ground, the windshield cracked and the tail light scratched. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

James Robert Anaya, 19, 191 Minnow Bridge Road, Union, charged Sunday with driving under the influence.
Jesse James Bradburn, 38, 243 Kelly Road, Union, charged Sunday with driving under suspension and simple possession of marijuana.
Matthew David Arnold, 29, 1932 Whitmire Highway, Union, charged Saturday with driving under the influence, simple possession of marijuana and driving under suspension other than first offense.
Twana Nicole Smith, 28, 106 Wedgewood Court, Union, charged Saturday with malicious damage to property.
Lyndon Eric Jackson, 31, 805 Woodward St., Aiken, charged Monday with forgery.
Lawrence Wayne Crocker, 55, 1218 Santuc Drive, Carlisle, charged Monday with open container.
