UNION, SC — Mable Stevens was born Jan. 13, 1923 in Union , South Carolina , she was the wife of the late Charner Stevens Sr. She was the daughter of the Henry and Sillar Pendergrass. She departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at Wallace Thompson Hospital.
Mable was an employee of United Merchants for twenty years. Her most beloved work, however, was her position as House Manager for many families for more than 30 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Millie S. Young of Union, South Carolina and Mary Stevens of the home; one son, Roosevelt Stevens of the home; five brothers, Richard Pendergrass of Union, South Carolina, James Pendergrass of Weirton, West Virginia, Henry Pendergrass Jr. (Karen) of Weirton, West Virginia, Paul Pendergrass (Norma) of Canton, Ohio, Hugh Pendergrass (Ruth) of Weirton, West Virginia; four sisters, Lucille Colliers of Weirton, West Virginia, Dorothy Lee of Weirton, West Virginia, Annie Mae Spencer of Weirton, West Virginia, Hazel Dawkins of Union, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Liza Dawkins of Jonesville, South Carolina; three godchildren, Dr. David Berry of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Susan Berry of Columbia, South Carolina, Jane Berry of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren; three god-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren: and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by three sons,Charner Stevens, Jr., Roy Stevens, and David Stevens; one grandson, Kennis Young; two brothers, William Pendergrass and Robert Pendergrass.
Funeral services will be held Sunday Jan. 24, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Adrian Kollock Officiating. Interment will follow at Beatty Chapel Cemetery.
The family is at the home of her daughter Millie Young 106 Cottage Ave. Union SC 29379.
