GOP hosting Forum tonight

WHAT: Union County Republican Party Candidates’ Forum

WHEN: 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 21)

WHERE: Career Source Center, 103 W. Main St., Union

CANDIDATES SPEAKING INCLUDE: Don Hyder Jr., announcing candidacy for Union County Council District 4; Dr. Brent Nelson, candidate for State Superintendent of Education.

Road Tour to stop in the Upstate

WHAT: 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour stop in Gaffney

WHEN: 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23

WHERE: Prime Outlets, 1 Factory Shops Blvd., Gaffney

REASON: The road tour is an attempt to motivate America to complete and mail back the 10-question census form when it arrives in the mail in mid-March. Those in attendance will be able to learn about the census through an experience that creates “a portrait of America.” The event will also highlight the availability of census jobs. Recruiting personnel from several Upstate census offices, including the Rock Hill office which is coordinating the census efforts in Union County, will be on site to administer tests to interested applicants.

WHAT: Union County Democratic Party regular monthly meeting

WHEN: 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25

WHERE: Law Library, Union County Courthouse, Union

Census testing sessions slated

WHAT: U.S. Census Bureau testing sessions

WHEN: Monday, Jan. 25; Tuesday, Jan. 26; Wednesday, Jan. 27; Thursday, Jan. 28; Saturday, Jan. 30; Sunday, Jan. 31

WHERE: Several locations around Union County

REASON: The Census Bureau still is seeking people for its part-time census taker positions. Starting wage is $14 per hour. For more information or to find the testing time and date in your community or nearby, call 1-866-861-2010. There also is a test date set for Carlisle for this Saturday, Jan. 23, at town hall. Call 427-1505 for more info.
