“They hung in there and kept the lead,” coach Yoneko Washington said. “They played well and I am very pleased with my girls.”
Union County opened the game leading 7-0 at the end of the first period. Chapman, however, fought back during the second period closing the score to 14-12 going into the half.
The Lady Jackets built a 10-point lead during the third period, but a 5-0 scoring run by the Lady Panthers whittled the lead away to five points.
Union County owned the fourth period building a 16-point lead with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Kristen Giles led the Lady Jackets in scoring with 21 points. Andrea Eisen had 10 points.
Union County (5-8 overall, 1-2 region) will host region-rival Clinton 6 p.m. Friday.
“We would like to be 2-2 in the region. We just need to keep on rolling,” Washington said.
