Union County has huge win over Blue Ridge

Union County posted a huge 83-50 win over Blue Ridge on Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (7-8 overall, 2-0 region) led the entire game.

"We had a big time effort tonight," coach Joe Pitt said. "We played a really tough, physical basketball game."

Michael Mebane led Union County in scoring with 18 points. Desmond Floyd had 16 points; Telvin Dawkins scored 12 points; Brandon Stapleton had 11 points; Brett Smith scored 6 points; Carlos Smith had 5 points.

Union County is now set to host two region games this week with Chapman on Tuesday and Clinton on Friday.

"These are two big games for us and we would love to have a big crowd," Pitt said. "These are an exciting group of guys to watch."

LADY JACKET ACTION

The girls' team lost to Blue Ridge 46-34.

Despite leading 26-25 during the first half, Blue Ridge went on a 21-8 scoring run in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
