Sixth-grader Bobby Brown scored his first basket of the year for Union Christian during an 89-38 loss to Blessed Hope Jan. 8.

Due to illnesses, Union Christian was only able to put six players on the floor — two of which were sixth graders.

“The score does not reflect the effort that our guys gave tonight,” coach Tommy Mann said. “They played 32 solid minutes of unselfish basketball.”

All six Union Christian players scored, but the icing on the cake, Mann said, was when Brown made his first basket of the year on a buzzer beater.

Andrew Goodale led Union Christian with 16 points and six rebounds. Team captain Dustin Medford scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds; Leland Comtois had six points and six rebounds.

The girls’ team lost 32-14 to Blessed Hope. The loss was in despite of a solid defense which held Blessed Hope scoreless in the third quarter.

Whitney Shetley led Union Christian with nine points, five rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Buffy Spencer had two points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Bella Spencer had three points, three rebounds and two steals.
