GLENN SPRINGS — A Buffalo man was injured and a 16-year-old Spartanburg girl has died as the result of a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon, Jan. 4.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Community Relations Officer for Troop 2 Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth, Terry Howell, 35, Buffalo, was traveling south on South Carolina Highway 215 in a 1978 Jeep pickup when a 2007 Dodge Charger being driven by Kyle Varner, 18, Roebuck, who was driving west on South Carolina Highway 150, entered the intersection, putting him in the path of oncoming traffic.
Howell’s vehicle collided with the passenger side of Varner’s Charger.
Howell, Varner and the Varner’s two passengers — Jessica Allyssa Putnam, 16, and Eason Burnside, 20, both of Spartanburg — were all transported by ambulance to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Edgeworth reported no one was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The roadway was blocked off for two and one-half hours following the accident so officials could conduct their on-site investigation.
Unfortunately, Putnam would not survive.
According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, the 16-year-old Spartanburg girl died Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The accident still is under investigation and the Spartanburg Coroner’s Office has joined the effort to determine its cause and manner in which Putnam died.
