The theft was reported Dec. 23 by the victim who said someone had used her name and Social Security number to obtain a credit card with Citibank in 2001. The victim said she’d found out about the credit card earlier this month when she received a bill from Midland Credit Management Inc., a collection agency. The account was in her name and had a balance of $1,038.08.
A copy of the billing statement was turned over to the sheriff’s office which is investigating the incident as a crime involving financial identity fraud and financial transaction card fraud.
More Fraud
Another case of financial transaction card fraud is also being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
The victim and his father came to the sheriff’s office Dec. 23 to report some person or persons had used his Arthur State Bank credit card to make five purchases totaling $626.99. The purchases were made around Dec. 15, three days after the victim said he’d last used the card. The card was cut off at the bank on Dec. 20.
Malicious Damage
An argument with your date can get you in trouble with the law, especially if you vandalize her car in the process.
Keaton Marque Norman Sr., 24, 114 Brockman Heights, Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with malicious damage in an incident that occurred early Saturday morning.
The victim told deputies she and Norman were coming out of a club on the Beltline shortly after 4 a.m. when they got into an argument. She said during the argument Norman walked over to her car on Sims Drive, pulled up a 4x4 post and used it to smash the front passenger side window. She said he also used it on the top of the passenger side door frame causing the frame to be bent and put several other dents in the vehicle.
Norman, who left the scene before deputies arrived, was arrested late Sunday afternoon.
Assault And Battery
Another argument that turned violent landed a Union woman in jail Sunday afternoon.
Tabatha Nicole Black, 22, 210 Old English Road, is charged by the sheriff’s office with assault and battery.
A deputy was dispatched to the Old English Road residence shortly after 1:30 p.m. There he was met by the victim who told him Black had hit her in the face with her hand causing a red mark. She said they’d been arguing all day but she didn’t think Black would hit her.
Black told the deputy she’d had all she could take and before she knew it she’d hit the victim and those present had to pulled her off of her. The deputy then placed Black under arrest and took her to the Union County Jail.
Breach of Peace
A man who wanted his brother arrested ended up in jail himself early Christmas morning.
Kevin Tyrone Glenn, 40, 219 South Church St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with breach of peace.
A deputy was dispatched to a motel on the Duncan Bypass shortly after midnight Friday to meet with Union Public Safety Officers who were investigating an assault which allegedly took place on Horseshoe Circle. The report states Glenn called 911 to have the public safety officers go arrest his brother and became irate when they told him they’d have to conduct an investigation first. The responding deputy noted Glenn was highly intoxicated and would not listen to anything being told to him.
The public safety officers said they’d explained the situation to Glenn several times but he would not cooperate. After they left the scene, Glenn called 911 from his cell phone as he left his room and stood on the balcony yelling and using vulgar and profane language. He was then placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Another Breach Of Peace
Vulgar and profance language also played a role in a Jonesville woman ending up in jail on Christmas Eve.
Chasity June West, 28, 209 New Hope Church Road, is charged by the sheriff’s office with breach of peace and assault and battery.
Deputies were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to a residence on the Gaffney Highway near Jonesville in response to a report of an assault. The complainant said West was angry and trying to start a fight with the victim. The victim said she tried to get away from West but West pulled her hair and pushed her to the ground.
The report states the victim had no visible injuries but did have some hair she said West pulled out. It states as deputies were talking with West she was using vulgar and profane language and continued to do so despite repeated attempts to get her to calm down. They then placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
Burglary
A Tootsie Roll bank and a tiny Christmas gift were the items taken by a thief who broke into a residence at 156 Peacewood Drive, Union, on Dec. 23.
The victim told deputies she’d left home at 7 a.m. and upon returning shortly after 7 p.m. she found someone had forced her back door open. Only two items were taken — a Tootsie Roll bank cotaining approximately $20 in coins and a small gift-wrapped present from under the Christmas tree. The present was a glass figurine in the shape of a heart with the word “October” printed on it. The figurine was valued at $3.
Before they left, the thief or thieves made an attempt to cover their tracks. The slide lock on the back door came loose when the door was forced open. A string was used to hold the lock in place in an attempt to make the door look undamaged.
The investigating deputy reports the way the door was closed it looks like the burglar(s) left through the front door, locking it behind them.
Damage to the door was estimated at $50.
