Whitmire’s girls basketball team nearly came back to beat Mid-Carolina Tuesday night, but were unable to close the deal, losing 36-32.

Tied 26-26 in the third quarter, Whitmire made some careless mistakes rushing to get shots off in the fourth quarter and were unable to keep up with Mid-Carolina.

“It was a very good game,” coach Kimberly Shelton-Hamilton said. “I was very proud of the effort our girls demonstrated.”

Crystal Wallace led Whitmire in scoring with 11 points; Lyndie McDaniel had nine points; Jocelyn Hopp scored five points. The team missed 12 free throws.

Whitmire (2-3 overall) hosts Saluda Friday.

“Overall we are a really young team,” Shelton-Hamilton said. “We are rebuilding.”
