The Union Career and Technology Center FFA Equine Science Team took first-place honors in the state finals held in Anderson County recently.

Team members Kristin Whitener, Hetti Millwood, Morgan Walker and Meredith Walker along with team coach Annette Vaughan, Agricultural Education instructor at the Center, were awarded expense-paid trips by the SC FFA Foundation to attend the 2010 National FFA Convention and compete in the National Equine Finals.

Meredith Walker was the high individual scorer and Whitener was the runner-up high scorer in the state finals.

"The Equine Science competition is among the most challenging of all the Career Development Events conducted by the SC FFA organization," Parris said. "It is also one of the most popular of the Agri-science competitions held at the state or national level," he said.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
