Union County’s girls basketball team defeated Mid-Carolina 56-29 on Monday night, giving the Lady Jackets two consecutive victories.

“We still have a lot of things to improve on, but we are getting better each game,” assistant coach Melvin Glenn said. “We have to get better with free throws and rebounds.”

Reanna Tucker led Union County in scoring with 25 points; McKale Hardy had 11 points; Jessica Hall and Kristen Giles each scored six points; Andrea Eison had three points; Janeka Brannon and Mariana Eison had two points; Iyauna Gist scored one point.

Chelise Morman led the team in rebounding with six.

On Friday, the Lady Jackets beat Chesnee 72-39.

Giles led the team with 22 points; Hardy and Tucker each had 12 points; Andrea Eison had 11 points; Brannon scored 10 points.

The Lady Jackets will host Chesnee 6 p.m. Friday.

Yellow Jackets lose

Union County’s boys basketball team was defeated Monday night 58-46 by Mid-Carolina.

The Yellow Jackets dug a hole early and got down 21-6 in the first quarter.

Union County did make a comeback in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to five points. However, a missed shot and a turnover put the Jackets away.

Brett Smith led the team with 15 points.

“You can’t come out and dig yourself a hole,” coach Joe Pitt said. “You have to be ready to play when you come out.”

On Friday, Union County came away with a huge 92-74 win over Chesnee.

Smith led with 28 points; Brandon Stapleton scored 22 points; Victor Ruth had 19 points; Joe Beatty had 12 points.
