World War II Veteran
UNION, SC — Mr. John Irby Blalock died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Wallace Thompson Hospital after a period of declining health.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1923, son of Pearl Betenbaugh Blalock and Charles Dillard Blalock.
John was educated at Union High School and attended Furman University. He served in the European front for the United States Army in World War II. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two sisters, Frances Blalock Bowling of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Ruby Blalock Singleton of Charlotte, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Holcombe Funeral Home, Union, South Carolina. Visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
