They range in age from 30-62.

Each has a story all their own.

But they all share a common desire.

The 25 members of Glory Divine Dancers, an adult praise dance troupe from Dream On Dance Studio in Union, use their talent to worship God.

They’re not just dancers, according to Dream On owner and the group’s director and member Angela Worthy. The women of Glory Divine want to share the blessings God has given them.

“We also have a heart for outreach,” Worthy said.

So each year at Christmas time since the group began its members have done an outreach to those in Union County who might need a little help. It started out as collecting toys for children in need, but this year the women decided to do something for adults who are in need.

Each member of the group has put together 10 bags — 250 total — with a variety of items, from nonperishable food to household things like towels, tissues, light bulbs, razors and more, that they plan to give to anyone in need this Saturday from 11 a.m.-noon at the dance studio on West Main Street in downtown Union.

Worthy said the group is aware that other organizations are doing similar projects, but it didn’t matter to her and her fellow Glory Divine dancers.

“We felt we wanted to bless others as well because God has blessed us in our ministry,” she said.

Christmas is a busy time and can be hard on everybody when it comes to making sure everything is ready and set to go and Worthy said her dance group is no different.

That didn’t matter to them.

Worthy said God has given her and the group not only the opportunity to dance and share that through ministry with others, but also to be missionaries and this outreach project is one way for them to fulfill that purpose.

“I would rather lack something in my own household than let someone with two or three children,” she said. “It’s hard for us at Christmas, too, but this is from the heart.”

Worthy added the group wanted to do something to show its love and helping those in need was an opportunity for members to reach out — in Christ — and give back to the community.

The name of Worthy’s dance studio is fitting because, she says, God blessed her with the vision to open the business in a dream. It also had been a dream of hers to one day own a dance studio and “now it’s here.”

“Not only could he bless me,” Worthy said, “he wanted me to bless others.”

The praise dance group is a result of that vision and its members are glad to be a part of it.

“I’d like to thank Miss Angela for her inspiration in my life,” said Glory Divine member Pamela Curenton, adding without God the dance studio wouldn’t be a reality and the praise group wouldn’t exist.

And knowing they can help people in need at Christmas time is an extra benefit.

“To know we are helping someone we get our blessings back double,” Curenton said.

The outreach project is open to any adults in Union County in need. Worthy said there already have been many phone calls from people to save a bag for them. Anyone else who needs a little help this year can either call and do the same or come to the studio on Saturday morning.

She added it might be a good idea to arrive a little early as the bags will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis until they are gone.

“We don’t care who they are, we’re for everybody,” Worthy said. “Everybody can come — anybody. We just want to say Merry Christmas to them and support them.”

The praise dance group meets once a week on Mondays at the studio in Union and Worthy said it’s open to new members. Group members also are available any time if someone needs to talk or someone to pray with.
