A man who allegedly kidnapped a woman in an apparent attempt to coerce her into having sex with him is being sought by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman contacted the sheriff’s office Saturday and reported she’d been forcibly held against her will for two hours early that morning. She said she’d gone to a restaurant in Spartanburg the night before to meet with two friends. While there, she saw and cordially spoke with the man whom she said she knew. When she went to leave the restaurant he asked her for a ride home.

Halfway to his house, the victim said the man began to solicit her and that once they arrived he grabbed her keys and cellphone, told her she’d have to come get them and went into the building. She said she went inside to retrieve her belongings but once inside she was not allowed to leave. The victim said after several thwarted attempts to leave she threatened to call the police. The man responded by throwing her cellphone into the toilet.

The victim said her kidnapper repeatedly grabbed her, pulled on her and slung her on to the couch when she tried to leave. On one occasion she said he even headbutted her in the mouth. She said she was scared and sat down on the couch and cried. She said the man then sat down in a chair and said “Bitch, you are going to hold me tonight.”

Two hours after the incident began, the woman said the man passed out in the chair and she was finally able to leave around 4 a.m.

The report states the victim had bruising and redness to both forearms; a bruise on the back of her left arm; redness and bruising to her neck and chest; a scratch across her back; scratches on her hand; and a bruised and busted lip. Photos were taken of her injuries.

Damage to the cellphone was estimated at $63.

The case is still under investigation.

Criminal Domestic Violence

A struggle over a cellphone resulted in a Jonesville man being charged with crimnal domestic violence early last week.

Milton Todd Scarborough, 45, 848 Bob Little Road, is charged by the sheriff’s office with jumping on top of a woman and beating her.

The victim told deputies the incident began around 11 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Webber Lake residence when she found Scarborough’s cellphone. She said she was going to look through it when he noticed what she was doing and tried to get it away from her. The victim said she wouldn’t let go of the phone and so he held her down and tried to get it away from her again. When she still didn’t let go of it, she said Scarborough jumped on top of her and started hitting her in the head and arms. She said his knees were pushing down on her chin.

The victim said her son managed to pull Scarborough off of her and at one point was choking Scarborough in an attempt to defend her. After he was pulled off, the victim said Scarborough went back to holding her down until he was able to get the phone away from her. She said he then started throwing things around the house looking for his coat so he could leave.

The report states the victim did not report the incident but told it to a relative who reported it a couple days later. The victim had been admitted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for reasons unrelated to the alleged assault. She was interviewed there by a deputy who took photos of her bruises.

The warrant for Scarborough’s arrest was signed based on the physical evidence collected by the deputy and the victim’s statement. Scarborough was arrested Thursday and transported to the jail where he remained until Friday when he was released on bond.

Assault And Battery

What began as an attempt to repossess a car ended with a woman attacking a man with a van.

Nancy Thomas Lawson, 65, 815 Webber Lake Road, Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with assault and battery.

A deputy was dispatched to Lawson’s residence shortly before midnight Thursday. The victim told the deputy he was attempting to repossess a vehicle at the location shortly after 11 p.m. He said the owner asked if he could get his things out of the vehicle and while he was doing so the victim said Lawson came out and told him to leave. He said she then got into her van and backed it up towards him, hitting his leg and pinning him between the two vehicles.

Lawson was arrested and taken to jail where she remained until being released on bond Friday morning.

Disorderly Conduct

Some horseplay that got too rough got two Sims Middle School seventh-graders taken into custody early last week

The sheriff’s office reports the incident began Nov. 30 during the school’s seventh-grade lunch period. The two boys were “horseplaying” with another student when they pulled him to the ground and began kicking at him while he was down. The boy got up, told the others to stop and tried to run from them. They stopped him and put him back on the ground where they resumed kicking him.

The report states the three boys are friends and the incident appears to be horseplay that “got a little too rough.”

The boy who’d been thrown to the ground and kicked went to see the school nurse and told her he was hurting in his back and shoulder. His mother was called to pick him up from school and she told the staff and the deputy her son has a medical condition and she wanted the other boys arrested for attacking him.

The two were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct before being released to the custody of their parents.
