Whitmire basketball finding success on the court

The Wolverines’ boys basketball team cruised by with two victories during the past four days with wins over Newberry Academy and the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind.

Whitmire beat SCSDB 65-58 Monday night thanks in part to a 26-point quarter by the Wolverines.

Marcus Lindsay led Whitmire with 18 points; PJ Davis had 12 points; Jonathan Ray Browning had 12 points.

Whitmire posted a 50-31 victory over Newberry Academy on Friday.

During the first half of the game, Whitmire post player Alan Glenn scored 12 points to pace the Wolverines.

Whitmire’s defense created 15 first-half turnovers for the Eagles, resulting in a 22 to 10 first-half lead.

Newberry Academy scored eight points in the first quarter and only two in the second; while Whitmire scored 14 first quarter points and eight points in the second half.

Coming out of the locker room Whitmire guards Lindsay and Davis created turnovers to set up easy baskets for the Wolverines. They combined to score 10 points in a pivotal third quarter. Whitmire beat Newberry every quarter and they tied with 13 points apiece in the final stanza.

The Wolverines defense was just to much at it created 29 Newberry Academy turnovers which resulted in easy scores for the Wolverines.

Whitmire (2-1 overall) travels to take on Newberry 6 p.m. Saturday.
